The Foundation of the Game

At its core, paper io is built around one central mechanic: territory expansion through risk. Players guide a constantly moving block that leaves a fragile trail behind it. By venturing outside their safe zone and drawing a closed shape, they convert neutral space into owned territory. The larger the captured area, the stronger the player’s presence on the map.

However, while expanding, players are extremely vulnerable. A single enemy crossing their exposed trail results in immediate elimination. This rule applies to everyone equally, creating a level playing field where even the most dominant player can fall in seconds.
