The Night I Stayed Up Too Late Because of a Sudoku Puzzle

I didn’t plan to stay up late that night. In fact, I was actually trying to go to bed earlier than usual. I brushed my teeth, turned off the lights, and got comfortable under the blanket with my phone.

My plan was simple: check a few messages, maybe scroll for five minutes, and then sleep.

But instead of social media, I opened a Sudoku puzzle.

That decision turned a quick five-minute activity into nearly an hour of staring at a grid of numbers.

And somehow, I didn’t regret it.

A Quiet Puzzle Before Bed

One reason I like Sudoku so much is how calm it feels compared to most mobile games.

There are no loud sounds, no bright animations, and no timers pushing you to rush. It’s just a quiet puzzle that patiently waits for you to figure it out.

That’s why I sometimes open one before bed.

It feels like a gentle way to relax my mind after a long day.

On that particular night, I picked a puzzle labeled “Medium.” I assumed it would be the perfect level—not too easy, not too difficult.

At least, that was the idea.
